Congratulations!!!!!

Congratulations to everyone who tried out for Alabama All-State Band.

Mason A. (alto sax), Brianna B. (oboe), Amber C. (flute), Katie M. (flute), and Cameron T. (trombone) all gave up their Saturday for auditions.

Cameron T. finished first in the district and will represent our band program as a trombonist at All-State in January. (Unfortunately, this means I have to go to Auburn :-() Brianna B. and Amber C. were both selected as alternates. Cross your fingers for them...maybe they will be able to go, also.

Along with Cameron T., Brianna B., and Amber C.; Katie M. and Mason A. will participate in ABA District V Honor Band.

District Concert Band Assessment --- It's kind of a big deal

District Concert Band Assessment will be held at Hillcrest High School on February 10 and February 11, 2009. Almost every band in Tuscaloosa and around District V will participate.

What is District Concert Band Assessment?

District Concert Band Assessment is much like a marching band contest except for sit-down bands. We go and perform for a panel of three judges and they give us a grade. Yes, it's like a test!!! They can either give us a I, II, III, or a IV. Ones are good, fours will leave me in the unemployment line. If we get a one from at least two of the judges, we qualify for State Concert Band Assessment. At State Concert Band Assessment, a one from all of the judges means we are a Superior Band Program.

Every band is graded by the same standard. This is the beginnings of your scholarship prep, should you choose to continue with band through college. This means a lot for our band program and can enhance the strong ground work students have laid in the past.

It is very important that everyone comes to class prepared every day. Our rehearsal time is our study time for this big exam. The better we study, the better we will perform. I listen to you guys every day...I know the potential for a superior band is there...We've got to buckle down, though, so that everyone knows how superior our band programs really are.

Great Concert!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO BOTH THE BEGINNING AND ADVANCED BANDS ON AN AWESOME CONCERT LAST NIGHT!!!!

I hope everyone had a great time and enjoyed themselves. The winter concert is always one of my favorites because I love Christmas music. It always seems to put everyone in such a good mood. If music is not enjoyable, then it's not worth it.

I have had a great time this semester. I look forward to a wonderful full semester.

BTW (By the Way): My camera is not working properly. If you or a parent took any pictures last night, please send them to me. (dcaddell@tcss.net)
